This is an old photo of my dearly departed dog Shane. He died a little over a year ago (as of the date I post this) at the age of 13.5. This photo taken when he was in his prime at about 2.5 years of age, which was just a few months after I adopted him from the animal shelter.
Whoever coined the phrase "man's best friend" had dogs like Shane in mind. He was very kind and gentle and wanted nothing more than to be your best friend. During the time I had him, I was lucky enough to work for a company that allowed me to bring him to work with me, so I was able to have him with me just about all the time. He loved riding the in car and hanging out at the office, and he behaved like a perfect gentleman the whole time at work. He was happy meeting total strangers and never pestered anyone who didn't first call him over to say hi.
It's a real shame that dogs don't have a longer life span since dogs like Shane certainly deserve it. I've always said that if I can't have a dragon, I'm just glad that dogs like Shane exist. He was just the perfect pet all around and I still miss him.
