So this is from a Dutch animation, The Dragon That Wasn't (or was he) or (Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel) which I recently was able to get a couple animation cels from. It's one of those cartoons I remember from when I was a kid, so I decided to do up a fan pic.
During my search for the cels, I found out a lot about the artist, Marten Toonder, from various people in Holland. The film was based on Toonder's comic strip, Tom Poes.
In the picture, the bear is Oliver B. Bumble and the dragon is Dexter (or Zwelbast).
Anyway, it was all interesting and it's a little piece of nostalgia.

Actually too, if you check pics on my twitter, I have a picture of em https://twitter.com/Teaselbone/media
The ones I got were from the Toonder Campaign http://www.toondercompagnie.nl
If you contact them, they should have some left. There wasn't a large number of Dexter ones. Maybe 10ish, but you should contact them if interested. At the time, I got them for 50 Euro each + shipping and you have to do a direct bank transfer/currency exchange, since they don't have paypal or anything like that. Look into it though if you're interested.
There was also a gallery in Holland that had one, but it was just of his upper body (when he breaks out of the circus tent scene) but they wanted like 200 Euro for it, unframed.

Oh damn...that is one hell of a rendition only you could pull off!
Seeing this movie was one of the things that helped me brainstorm ways of incorporating some macroness into my own character.
And that guy's name really stuck out...considering the recent series that I hated to see end.

I remember. The story was about the wealthy bear named Oliver is told by his butter Yost about a legend that dragons would come down from the mountains causing storms. Not believing this, Oliver reads from the book Yost got the idea from, even reciting an incantation to summon a dragon. Yost looks outside and claims to see a dragon but due to curtains blowing in Olivers face he doesn't see it. The next morning the pair discover dragon tracks and, amazingly, an egg. Though even when the egg hatches Oliver refuses to believe the young creature is really a dragon.
What follows is a series of events with Oliver trying to keep his 'adopted dragon son' safe while the dragons natural instincts put them both in danger from the law and a pair of con artists trying to take the dragon for their own. It's actually a good movie as it delves into just how much one individuals stubbornness to believe in mythical dragons, even when one is starting him in the face, can cause so much trouble.
I haven't seen the movie in years so this is just what I can take from the Wikipedia article. It's spoiler heavy though so I'd recommend watching a copy of the movie first if you can.

For those who want to find the movie :o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW1dxDUQW6o
I was going to add Tom in, but, I decided just to have Oliver in there.
It's funny, I guess with the original comics, they were about tom puss, but, then the bear became the main character, mostly as an instigator, starting whatever situations would happen in the comic.

Wanna know a fun fact? Actually Tom's a guy but he often gets mistaken for a girl (even the English synchronisation messes this up.)
Though, it's not hard to see why the confusion is caused. =P (eyelashes and girl-like appearance, I think Toonder might've wanted to tell up something, lol) X3

Interesting! I'd never seen or heard of that show before, but I like the character designs. Of course, your tweak on the dragon likely adds a lot of sexy detail to his feet like the tendon lines *murr*. Very cool that you found an actual cell! How many cells from shows do you have in your collection now?
Oh, and I have pics of the cels in my twitter pictures https://twitter.com/Teaselbone/media
Oh wow, huge nostalgia injection for me. =3
I was a long-time fan of the comic books and this cartoon is just the icing on the cake (and might've even awakened my interests in giant creatures Lol. X3)
The sad part is that 'after' Marten Toonder died, people have picked up on the comics/rights and have reduced it to left-politically-oriented propaganda (wish I was making that up X.x)... so yeah, as far as most Dutch people are concerned: this comic series is deader than dead. But at least we still have fond memories of what once was. =3

Hah! When I was still at Blockbuster this was getting sold off from the kid's section (when movies don't rent they get sold)...was $2. ;) Had that tape banging around for a while. Man, what a corny movie. All for about ten seconds of growy payoff.
Now it's on Youtube so who needs tapes? c.c

I TOTALLY loved this movie, both in English AND Dutch, just because I was focused more on the characters than the plots at the time. The comics that ran from the 40's up until the early 80's were pretty awesome as well!
Boy, I wish Dexter would carry me around on his giant hands too. I'd love to give him a big hug either in small or large form

Hi there, Dexter Dragon fans.
I was looking for fan art of Mr. Bumble/ Tom Puss and am pleasantly surprised to find this gorgeous illustration made by teaselbone. Great artwork!
After having read the comments, I’d like to give you some information about the current status of the Dutch Marten Toonder/ ‘Mr. Bumble’ universe. Let me start by saying that rumours about the death of this famous graphic novel have been greatly exaggerated.
I’m both a furry fan and a member of the official collectors club, see https://toondertijd.nl/. There’s me and a thousand more Dutch people who make it their business to know everything about Toonder.
After Marten Toonder died, things have been silent for a while. Then, his granddaughter reclaimed the copyright to his work and founded the Toonder Compagnie. http://www.toondercompagnie.nl/ . They have been active for a while in republishing existing work and even creating new stories! Also, there are new attempts to make good English translations.
A newly created story for children has been illustrated by Henrieke, also a furry fan, see https://www.furaffinity.net/view/32961938/ . She’s making the cutest art work and I love what she has done with Mr. Bumble/ Tom Puss!
The work of Toonder consists of a ‘text comic’ style graphic novel containing 177 stories published from 1941 to 1985. There is also a balloon comic series with more than 40 titles. For a recent translation of one of the graphic novel stories, see https://www.tapinto.net/towns/newto.....pisode-1-2-3-4 . Unfortunately, the translation isn’t optimal. Tom Puss is called ‘Ocelot’ here, which is odd.
A balloon comic has been translated into English too: Tom Puss and the Crunchers (sometimes wrongly mentioned as Crackers), ISBN 9789492904089. You can order it on https://www.bol.com/nl/ . You may recognise the style from the movie; even the plot has some similarities and there are nicely drawn reptilish characters in it that bare some resemblance to Dexter.
So Tom Puss has been around for a while and his appearance has changed a lot since his birth. See http://www.uitgeverijcliche.nl/lay/.....-ingelijst.jpg for a nice impression. Yes, he's a boy and not a girl. His appearance is quite androgynous and I can point you to stories where he looks almost unbearably cute. There isn't a lot of fan art; I think he is one of the most overlooked furry characters ever.
If people are interested in doing fan art, please contact me. At the moment I’m completely broke, but in a few months I hope I am able to pay for it as well. In the mean time, I can tell you everything you always wanted to know about Toonder and if I don’t know the answer, I know a guy who knows a guy. :)
