Trade - Looking Into the Sunset (Angyl)
A 2004 trade originating on VCL, this one defined some more firsts for me (art trades seem to always push me into new artistic territory, don't they?). First off are the lighting effects, in which I tried hard to make it look like the character (as well as the various structures in the background) was being lit by the setting sun. Second was the highlighting using the same prevailing light source--on his purple hair. Another effect I pulled off for the first time was the transparent highlight across his shades.
Last, and most prominent are the wings. This was my second consecutive trade involving a winged character, and I had no experience drawing them. Most seem to think I pulled off the effect pretty well for never having drawn them before. Were I to draw this again, I would lenghten the torso, and beef up his arms from the elbow to the wrist. In the original 2552x3300 image this was derived from, you can better see the lights on the suspension bridge in the background.
This trade was completed. I recieved a pic of Roland in return.
Technical: Inked with brushes and processed with Micrografx Picture Publisher 8. I should point out that everything I've done with this app (everything I have on FA except for the vector images) was done without the benefit of layers. If the app I'm using has them, I'm not aware of it. Most everything I do digitally can be described without delving into Photoshop jargon, since I don't use it.

Second paragraph of description :)
I still have the full-size image, so I could fix that. But it's process I'll probably save for when I have a lack of subjects to draw, since breaking up the character and stretching the torso against that backdrop (remember, I didn't use layers) will be a long-winded task if I want it to look seamless at the end.
I didn't mention that in the original description, but it was the extreme foreshortening on his left leg that hid the "shortcoming" in the rest of his anatomy at the lineart stage--it didn't become obvious until after I colored the pic.
But I'll eventually re-edit it.
