Soo I get bored this evening and guess what I decide to do? Make a little moss garden.
Went to the back yard and grabbed up some moss and underlying dirt, grass with roots intact and arranged that. Then went and grabbed some fossils and petrified wood out of my stone collection and placed them in the jar along with the moss and grass. This took all of about five minutes to complete.
If the moss spreads I'll have update photos. (Yes, there is a lid, so this will act like a little greenhouse for the plants inside. All I have to do is keep it watered.) The jar used is one of those little truvia bottles.

^___^ I'm glad. Most of the random things come out of boredom though, either that or really random ideas that pop into my head that i'm pretty much compelled to create. XD
You should make one, they're really easy. Just make sure ya have a lid on your jar or container, otherwise there might be little critters hatching out from time to time (since the plants and dirt come from outside.).

Did you mean an air plant? http://www.thejuicyleaf.com/images/.....t-globe-lg.jpg
If so, then I can't. The moss requires to much water for that. It is a damp growing moss.

I didn't use a tutorial, but i bet you could find one. I just used some moss and grass and such from the back yard. I'd say just put enough water to where everything is moist, but not drenched. You'll know when moss starts to dry out when it is dry to the touch, since it kinda acts like a sponge. This is the first one I've personally made, so I can't say that I know all that much about it.
Neat! I really never thought of something like that.
-OK I've had some jokes about "lychen topiary" in a comic forum, and I actually considered trying it for the fun, but THIS looks great. I may try it one day.
So. May I assume the lid will need a few small holes punched for ventilation and such?
*waits for updates*

Just as long as the moss and other plants aren't looking dry and brittle I'm sure its ok. Especially if you got it from outside. That stuff can be pretty hardy. I just try to make sure that the soil isn't getting to dry. I've had to sprinkle a few drops of water into this one today, but not much more than that.
Looks super cute!
Speaking as someone with some experience with plants... You should know that the moss that grows in your yard probably won't do as well at constant room temperature. Also, plants do respire in addition to absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, and they need air motion to do both. Fungi however, prefer warm, stagnant, moist conditions. Keeping it lidded, wet, and room temperature is likely to result in a mold garden rather than a moss one. If you want the moss to do best, use a spray bottle to water it and never let the soil stay wet for more than a few days, keep it cool (like, maybe put it on a porch or in an unheated room?), and don't put a lid on it.
Good luck! Mosses are very interesting little plants.

I have it sitting by a window that keeps it pretty cool most of the time, and sometimes even a bit cold when the window is open. Not enough to create frost, but enough to stop mold. I'll be opening the lid every day to add new air to the mix, but I've never actually had problems with molding in the past from outdoor moss, more of it drying out completely because I forget to water it. ^_^' I've made these in the past, but never one landscaped as pleasingly as this one. I'll keep that in mind though.
This one is actually in a plastic jar, and its still surviving. I've since added a few more bits of plant to it, a pinch or two of moss to fill in some of the mud spots, since i'm not sure it would spread till next year, and some sprigs from a few other kinds of plants. We'll find out if those survive.
(This image was taken through the top, since I'd just watered earlier today, and the jar gets kind of foggy. -- http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3866/foz9.png
Also made another one in a canning jar, same issue with the glass when watered. lol -- http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/1338/xqcl.png
