perdy. not the 80s i remember. but then my direction of focus has always been a little different then everyone else. (which i don't believe ever included the automobile or top 40 music) REAL science fiction was at its peak in popularity, and real science hadn't yet been entirely coopted by corporate economics. mount saint helens blew up, raygun became president, and the personal computer became a consumer commodity, instead of just a niche for geeky techno-nerds. affraid i don't see the connection with either goats or chrome. chrome was the obsession of plebean joe sixpacks in the late 50s and early 60s, when hippie funk world pacificism, held the higher moral ground. the only thing i can think of goats having to do with the 80s was the mutant space goat that ate the b-arc in douglas adams' hitchikiers guide to the universe. everyone DID pretend to support environmentalism, though. not enough to support public transportation instead of highways and oil, but enough to attempt to demand industry to clean up its act. pretty much the decade the corporate mafia usurped the political process, and began the process of entrenching itself in dictatorial control of everyones lives on the pretense of rebranding itself as freedom.
