He wears a ring upon his horn which has a soul trapped within.
When he allows the spirit within to possess him, he gains great strength in size and power, turning from his regular blue/gold colors to a vibrant red and gold.
His horns also grow in length, pushing the ring further out, where as usually the ring sits closer to the base of the horn it's upon.

Decided on a 'letterbox' view on this to emphasize the surge of power happening.
