Sentient nightmares, by far the most dangerous, cunning, and insidious creatures in all of Somnia. Unable to comprehend feelings of joy, belonging, or any kind of benevolence, these malicious beings seek to snuff out all notions of hope or decency. To them, all forms of joy or beauty are abhorrent, and affront to their very existence, mocking them. Unlike the other nightmares, Malevolents are highly intelligent, and their shapeshifting abilities make them skilled manipulators and combatants. They will rarely engage in direct battle, wisely avoiding fights they have little chance of winning.
