Now, before anyone who isn't familiar with Coco's story gets upset.... Coco came from a dairy farm and was injured as a kitten. His tail was dislocated and he could not feel it. Coco is like most cats and LOVES to lay in the middle of rooms and doorways. We were worried that we would step on his tail and either injure it that way or injure it and some other parts of his anatomy if he tried to run away while we were on it. We actually stepped on it several times before we started shuffling our feet to avoid it because we thought it was a toy. Our other boys make a huge fuss if you get anywhere near their tails but not Coco.
Anyway, Coco was just fixed and had his tail docked. Our vet told us while it was not a life threatening injury, at this point it would probably be in our and Coco's best interest to have it removed. He also would get pee and poop on it while in the litter box because he could not lift it like other cats.
Since this photo, Coco was given his pain meds and was also fitted with our "e collar" so that he couldn't lick either of his incisions. He is now quite high and a little confused by the bell on the collar used to keep the "e collar" on. XD;
This and our vet bill for the foster kittens is the reason for the new auction, I need to make up for what we just spent. The bill was $240. :(

Oh no. The bill was for testing for distemper and then also for parasites as well as treatment for the parasites. The fosters we're taking care of are from the same farm as Coco and aren't affiliated with any shelter (unfortunately.) When we took them in, the babies had been starving because their mother was no longer caring for them. We lost the smaller two, both black and possibly inbred. They just weren't retaining weight and also both went into a brief paralyzed state several days before they passed... :(
Yep! He'll be so much better in two weeks, probably before then but that's when he gets his stitches out. :) He's kind of got the phantom limb thing going on... He used to have to roll his stump to get the "dead" part to sit the way he wanted it to. Now we'll just see the little stump rolling around for a second before he settles himself. But other than that he seems to be okay, just kind of confused.
Yeah, I mean... The vet we go to doesn't even do docking, only in the case of something like this where it is in the animal's best interest. I actually thought I was going to have to beg her to do it because she said on her site that it was absolutely no but she looked at him and almost recommended it. If we couldn't have gone to her we would have had to wait even longer to get it done... Most other places around here charge at least $500 just for the docking. :/
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. We were going to consider not getting it done if that is what we had to pay. If it were hurting him, that would have been a different story. But luckily our vets only condition was that we got it done at the same time he was fixed. I wanted to do that to begin with... it was just the wait for the appointment that stunk a little. He had started spraying the couch we had bought used. >_<
