This is part two of a two-part project: Cybertronic Shock Trooper
I finished the paint last night along with the principle photography. I added in another shot this morning to accommodate a request for comparative size to a coin. I edited the image together over a half hour while slowly waking up.
The base color was selected to compliment my ‘Dead Mars’ scenery project. I really like the look of ferrous soil. I chose a desert themed camouflage with a conscious effort to emulate ‘leopard spot’ camo patterns. Most of the color I prefer in my palate are drab with a distinct favoritism toward grey. I feel the most accomplished with the work I did with the eye lenses on the face mask. I painted the circle of it, then used white to highlight the under curve of it as well as adding a reflection dot at the top. I complemented the finish detail with a daub of transparent iridescent gloss. (The same substance they use on fish trophies)
I think the biggest thing over all that I learned from this project is that I should work on multiple models sculpts at the same time. The biggest down time revolved around needing to let the material cure (two to three hours) before adding more sculpting. If I were to work on say,.. three models at the same time it would have more accomplishment for the same amount of time (and admittedly the investment of more continual effort on my part)
This also marks the first time I have done a sculpture for myself. It may be in the process of pursing employment as a sculptor/game designer, it is a physical object I get to put on the shelf as opposed to putting it in the mail to someone. In addition to looking sexy on my shelf it can also be put to good use blasting zombies on the table top.
