For a long period of war, the two had been separated. Beast Killer had left her wife the opossum, Smiling Bird, leaving her not knowing whether she would see her again when the warriors returned. Day in and day out, Smiling Bird tried to move on with her life, trying not to think about her wife out in the battlefield or thinking about the possibility that she might not ever return.
Then one day, someone cried out, "The warriors have returned!" Smiling Bird became nervous, as it was the moment where she would find out whether her wife had survived the war or not. She was almost too scared to look. She looked among the approaching warriors, her heart began racing. Was she there? Where is she? Is she okay? Then suddenly, a familiar voice cried out. "Smiling Bird!!!" Then suddenly Smiling Bird saw her wife Beast Killer. She was there! She was alive! She smiled like she never had before and cried in joy as she ran toward Beast Killer and Beast Killer toward Smiling Bird. Beast Killer allowed herself to drop her quiver of arrows, and then her bow, as if symbolically showing the end of war. They hugged each other tight, in joyful laughter and tears of joy. They let themselves fall to the ground rolling there in jubilation. Smiling Bird thanked Creator for bringing her beloved wife back safe, as they hugged, kissed, and stared into each other's eyes. The war was over and love could live in peace again.
Someday, we will all be able to put down our bows and arrows too, and once again let love live in peace again.
A very special thanks to
Betsy for this particular drawing. I literally cried in happiness when I saw this. Such an emotional work.
