Grells are one of those Fiend Folio beasties everybody seems to have trouble taking seriously; a floating brain with tentacles and a beak is not imposing or scary, it's just a bunch of potentially scary elements thrown together resulting in a weird mish-mash. The grell seen here is the first one I think would actually intimidate or disturb an adventurer.
