First off, I really apologize for the poor image quality. My artwork isn't exactly professional, but I also had to take a picture of this with my phone, and try to get it presentable with a bit of sharpening and color saturation in a photo editor.... I don't have a scanner.
But about the picture. This is kind of a depiction of what elementary and middle school were like for me. All of my early childhood, really. I grew up in a small town in the mountains, a logging town, and I was an outcast. I only had one or two friends. I *lived* in the library. Whether I was studying, or just reading stories for entertainment, this was how I survived. I could escape to fantasy worlds, pretend I was someone else.
I don't read much anymore, I mostly roleplay instead, but I do it for the same reasons. I can pretend that everything is okay, that I'm not in the situation I'm in.
So yeah. I just kinda sat down and drew this without thinking about it... How did you get through childhood? Was it easy? Rough? Why don't you go ahead and share? ^^

We were too poor really to have video games, when I was really young, though. Single mom doing her best for me and my brother, but I did have an NES for a little while, and we got a used PS1 too. The public library was amazing. Finding a place to sit alone at lunch was a little hard, but I did that too. ^^;
Wow, that is some pretty nice attention to detail... I am kind of ashamed of my backgrounds compared to this LOL.
I used to be like that with books, and I kind of RP for the same reasons, so I feel you there. ;^; It lets me be who and what I want to be (kitty parts and vampirism aside, obviously). Being a man likely will never be an option in my future, but at least I have a nice network of friends who are willing to let me pretend for a while...
You did a lovely job on this. I love art that has meaning behind it. :)

You say attention to detail, but I just see a big mess. x3
I'll take your word for it.
And yeah, hey. You say you identify as a guy, you're a guy, at least to me. You're Vince. :> Thanks for sharing.
And thanks for the compliments, no matter how undeserved I feel they are.

Well lemme clarify. The fact you took time to draw each book individually was what I was talking about. Knowing me, I would have half assed it. The line work looks patient, probably the most smooth lines in the whole picture. :P What it speaks to on a subconscious level and says about you is that you speak truthfully. Those books are the subject of this drawing, rather than the person it's centered on. At least, that's what I'm getting from it from a psychoanalytical standpoint. XD
And I do appreciate it. S'why you're one of those people I can call a good, true friend. c:
You're welcome! Keep it up, I would love to see other stuff from you <3 I think this is the first I've seen your FA before!

I had to take some drugs for asthma, and as a result things before age 15 are hazy.. But reading books is the best thing ever. It was like stimulus for imagination, and it led to my obsession with plots and ideas and fantasy. I wish I could get back into reading, but it's so hard for some reason.. probably because it's hard to have control over books <.< Every now and then though I manage to get a series and I consume it utterly in a span of a day or two, and sometimes go on a binge after that.
