Tail Underground: Bathing Hall
ianrsoulfox already posted this, so I figured I might as well do it, too: The second of the two backdrop paintings for Ian's Halloween party at the Tail Underground. This ended up being a more extensive redesign than the tavern was, as the original bathing hall was little more than a box with a sunken area in the middle, and Ian had sugegsted that I "go wild" with the design.
I started off by studying the architecture of various roman baths, specifically the ones at Bath, in Somerset. The arches and pillars are a direct reference to that historic site. This also allowed me to incorporate the same archtop door design used in the Tavern image, thereby providing a bit of design continuity between the rooms. And, a matching alcove opposite the bath, makes a good place to keep the towels off the floor while providing a bit of symmetry to the design.
The decorative stone fountainhead is retained from the original design, and is now mounted to a large roman wall fountain, pouring into a slightly reshaped tub basin.
One final thing to note, is that while I retained the color scheme from the tavern, here it has been inverted. With the reddish brown and tan colors of the walls and wall trim swapping places.

Yeah, this is an awesome bathing hall, and nothing can beat the Romans when it comes to inspiring this kind of thing. Using the tavern color scheme as a base, was a really good choice, because it created a mellow, intimate room, a feeling that kinda reminds me of how J.R.R. Tolkien described a Hobbit hole.
Of course, my on-line mate,
Uniprae's Goldie, would look at this and tell you, it's only missing a sweet, sexy, naked doggy-boi, but that's Goldie for you.
