Like A Moth To A Flame
Training was all he'd ever known. Tempering his body like the steel he owed half of his very nature to. Pain came along with that, and it was something he had learned to accept. But on cold nights, the bite of a sore fist, the tiny lacerations on bruised knuckles...it hurt worse. A nagging pain made all the more real by lonely and bitter cold.
Lucario winced as he began to wrap his paws with the athletic tape he'd learned to keep at all times. Surely his Master would heal him if he were to ask for it, but he didn't care to appear weak to someone whose respect and admiration he'd only begun to earn. Besides, it was nothing big...
"You know you should have that looked at."
His tall blue ears swiveled slightly at the soft voice that broke through the silence. Instantly, he felt a bit off. She had that effect on him. Being on the same team with a creature that could easily render all his strengths null and void in one or two moves made him nervous. Damn Fire Types...
Still, he was ever the gentleman warrior, and he stood, bowing his head slightly before meeting her amber gaze. "It's nothing. Just part of training, M'Lady," Lucario assured her in a deep voice that hummed like the strike of a hammer against metal.
Braixen laughed softly and shook her head coquettishly. "If it is nothing, then why bandage it in the first place?" Her question was made even more curious with the tilting of her sharp featured face.
He refused to answer her...only balling up his loosely wrapped hands and looking to the side, hoping she'd take the hint that he wasn't in the mood for twenty questions. His crimson eyes widened in absolute shock when he felt her tiny, warm paws on his large ones, unwrapping the bandaging.
"What are you doing exactly?" he nearly hissed, his heart thumping in his throat, making the words themselves feel like they would strangle him.
"Do you not trust me?" she asked, the gleam of her honey colored eyes barely visible under her thick eyelashes as she concentrated on carefully removing his clumsily applied treatment. "I get the feeling oftentimes you don't..."
"I admire you enough," Lucario answered truthfully. Whereas he was strong, she was disciplined and swift. Though her ways, leaning more towards ethereal and mage-like, were not his own, he could appreciate the concentration it must take to hone her skills.
"Admire?" He felt his face warm when she looked up at him for the fraction of a second. Was she too close to him? Is that why he felt as though he might burn? "I thank you for using such a word. But I'd rather have your trust."
"No one has that. Admiration is as close as anyone comes."
"Are you really that afraid of the warmth that closeness and friendship can bring?" the foxlike creature asked. Her dainty fingertips danced above the palm of his hand that seemed to stretch out at her command though she'd uttered no sort of request. Warmth began to tingle the pawpads of his hand, and he felt her other paw lightly support his forearm. "You know...fire can heal just as it can destroy as well."
"Easy for you to say..." He gave her a smirk...something he didn't often give anyone. "One attack from you could have me knocked out for a day at least..." He'd admitted weakness...why?...
"Or you could count me as your friend and my warmth could ease your many aches, Lucario." A small flame began to materialize above the palm of his hand, radiating a soft warmth that admittedly seemed to massage away the aches of his bones. "After all, you have lent me your strength, why will you not allow me to lend you the same?"
He had. A few days prior he had taken a massive blow for her. Leaping in front of an attack that nearly took him out completely. But she was so small...he couldn't see allowing her to take such a hit. He had to admit though, before fate had brought them together, fighting for the same cause, he'd never have stuck his neck out for one of her kind before.
His lonely and disciplined life was changing...already, he'd taken someone else's pain as his own.
The fire grew brighter and yet it didn't hurt him. Much to his surprise, the warmth was comforting. As they had travelled together with her Master she had known since birth, he'd avoided the campfires at night. Content to sleep yards away from camp and only hear the whispers of the stories they all shared rather than to take part in them. That might have to change though...
...all of sudden, he wanted to hear what she had to say...what the others had to say...what they'd been through together. And why, though they were all so different, they worked together so very well. After all...maybe that was what had earned his respect in the first place. Such a motley group going so far...
"Feeling better?" her voice called him back to the present, and the gentle rubbing of her paw on his arm made him smile. "Come back to camp and I'll prepare an ointment for your cuts. I'm afraid nothing I can do here will help with that."
He thought for a moment. She'd done enough...more than enough if he was honest with himself, but suddenly the biting cold around them seemed worse than it had before.
"Lead the way," he replied, a soft grin crossing his muzzle.
Her large eyes widened...it was obvious she'd been prepared to be disappointed, but she recovered quickly, giggling and closing her eyes above a large smile, fluffy tail wagging. "There might be hope for you yet!"
He followed closely behind her, watching her very nature illuminate the leaves of the wood around them. Fireflies danced around her, and she occasionally reached out to let them perch on her tiny arm before letting them fly free into the night.
Days before, he'd have preferred the cold for fear of being burned. Things were definitely changing...
I said I'd make a more serious description than the sketch had attached to it (see my scraps iffin' you care to read my insanity). Lucario and Braixen will forever by my OTP Pokemanz ship. Yessssssssh. Admit it. You guys like it too. I will be drawing more of these two in the future just because I think they are cute, but I promise this will not be the obsession that Star Wars is to me. But, I figured in light of the new release, I should do some Poke fanartage, so, here's my contribution to the masses.
Did this one a bit differently. It is colored directly on top of the sketch. Just copic undercoloring with colored pencil on top. Was fun for a change.

Hun, the fact you even bothered to look at and comment thoughtfully on Pokemon fanart is so sweet. Thank you so much. Glad you like the results of my artistic experimentation. Might do this more often with some of the sketchier ideas that run around in my head...or even yours...
Oh gawd, I suck at tutorials. Soooooo much! I need to try to livestream again soon, it's just that life has been so crazy lately that I haven't been able to nail down a decent amount of free hours that are right together to do it. But, I think that would be the best way for me to show any of you anything you want help with. If you'd like, you could tell me what would be the best time to try to schedule a livestream, and I'll get either a commission, trade, or some random art to the stage it needs to be to show you whatever it is you want to know.
INORITE. Me too. I liked all three of the starters in this one. But I had to go with Fennekin of course FOR MAXIMUM FURREH POINTZ.
Thar will be more art of these two and their pokefranz. I promiseeeeee...did I mention I like Absol too? And that I had one that was frequently on my team? Don't I remember someone having a fondness for absols?...

It was haaaaard doing Lucario. Translating Braixen into my style was actually pretty easy, but Lucario was tough since he is so very stylized, but I'm pretty happy with how he looks. I can't wait to get some time to do his Mega Evolution version. That will be super fun. Thanks so much!
How can you not ship these two? They're the perfect combination. She can tear him apart, and his defenses can aid her. It'd be almost perfect, if Steel didn't have that glaring weakness to fighting/Rock/and ground attacks >.< One good rock type will take them both down but, methinks there might be another pokemon that'll be of use to help with that later.
I love the art on this and FAVED! I wanna DL this image to my gb

I really really struggled with Lucario in the sketch, and it took a couple of tries to get a happy mixture between the original design and my style. Even so, I probably made him too fluffy for some people's tastes, but I like fluffy dogthings, so I just tried to keep his proportions the same as the original design and made him have really sharp features and spikes of hair rather than silky tufts like I normally do.
I'm so glad you like it!

Hahah exactly. Yeah, I really digged their design when I first saw poochyena and mightyena in Emerald. Instantly made that pup my main, and I originally thought there would never be anything cooler than Jolteon and Heracross. This pair have a cool dynamic here like previously mentioned, the different coloration of the two with the cool blue and the fiery orange. Suits their personalities really well with how you depicted them.
Well executed effect with the pencil/copic blending technique.
As per usual your writing is second only to your artwork... even my total lack of knowledge of the Pokemon thing fails to make a dent on the short story you weave... the theme moves beyond the character's source to a more common held core... simple but cleanly done without being over polished..
