God I'm really starting to lose faith in scanning, as my glasspad is getting pretty dated in its ability to see pencil and pen without making it look like a soulless travesty. The colors in your output seem rich and the black level is alright and doesn't take away from the lovely lines at all. The balance of white to line to color plain matters most where the eyes nose and mouth form the central compositional triad of your pic and they seem strong and not washed out.
It would be really cool if this were part of a series or an exploration. Cool beans!

I can't escape the scanner. I love the traditional arts too much. I mean, even though I have the new tablet and everything I just sketch and draw much MUCH more in traditional media. but the scanner destroys everything it touches. In the original there was more detail in the hair and you could see the bark pattern all the way down to the bottom of the pic. the scanner screwed that up so much that the only way the fix it was to smudge it to hell and back. I just wish there was some way to get the pictures into the internets without butchering them first. sigh.
oh and thanks. sometimes I just like to make anthro creatures that have nothing to do with animals. I have a picture of an anthro girl who is a road, complete with stop light eyes and a crashed vespa in her hair. I would re-draw it in painter so it wouldn't get ruined if I could just figure out how to use painter competently. I might try something like a series one day, but my mind is usually all over the place and it's hard for me to concentrate on one set of characters without constantly creating new ones.
