This is my current painting project, and I've had a fair few lately...
A Crimson Fists Space Marine Force. I've not done block painting on so many units at once before. All the blues, reds and yellow's are already done as well as base level grey's. I've just started on the metallic colours and hope to be done with the whole project by Wednesday next week.
It's a tall order, but it's a cool looking army
tally is:
* HQ - Captain
* Troops - Tactical Squad (x10 man unit)
* Troops - Scout Squad (x5 man unit)
* Elites - Sternguard (x5 man unit)
* Elites - Assault Centurions (x3 man unit)
* Heavy Support - Predator (destructor with heavy bolters)

the full process here was:
Sprayed with the spray gun - Kantor Blue
Given a heavy wash of - Drakenhoff Nightshade
All upper surface areas or armour plates visible from the top down blocked in - Kantor Blue - leaving under hanging areas and recesses dark blue.
First highlights painted on with a watered down - Macragge Blue
Edge highlights with - Lothern Blue
All red areas painted - Mephiston Red
Red areas washed with - Nuln Oil
Red areas re-painted with - Mephiston Red - levaing recesses dark
Red areas highlighted with a 50/50 mix of - Mephiston Red and Wild Rider Red
Eyes were painted with - Ceremite white
eyes were then washed with - Casandora Yellow
Just short of 1000 points at the moment. I'll be adding a drop pod for the Sternguard before bulking up the army any further.

I've seen them used in a few games now and they are actually quite scary. a cunning player will alter their formation as they move to spread wounds around making sure they can get their job done with minimal casualties. The Assault ones are very nasty, but the grav-cannon/grav-amp devastator centurions kick out so much firepower that it scares you.
Spirit Wolves is kinda cool :)
here are a couple of others off the top of my head that might work if you're interested:
Storm Wolves - gauntlets painted silver/grey to represent their hands being like lightning
Silver Claws - hands painted silver for obvious reasons
Shadow Wolves - Hands painted grey to symbolize their hands being turned to ash in the funeral pyres of their honored dead.

6th Ed 40K, New Marine codex came out last month with some mew toys. Most notably the Centurions, the Hunter/Stalker (anti-aircraft tanks), plastic Sternguard (shown above), plastic Vanguard, and a new plastic tactical squad with more weapon options, and of course a few plastic characters.
I actually saw a mobile assault army that was packing two units of Devy Centurions in Land Raider Redeemers, and they were kitted out for full tank killing, Lascannons and missiles. Really expensive units, but they killed everything that looked at them with so much as a hint of malice. dropping out 4 twin lascannons and 4 missile launchers with relentless from a Land Raider Redeemer that's purpose is to run interference while the Centurions deal with high priority targets is horrifying!
After they mopped up vehicles (end of turn 3) they went character and high cost unit sniping. end of turn 5 the guy lost only 2 of his centurions (one from each squad), a few scouts, half a tactical squad and a vindicator. Compared to the 2500 point army he demolished (centurions counted for about 1300 points worth of chaos marine damage) I'd say it was a great selection.
I think I can remember his army list. I can re-write it here later if you want.

That's a lot of plasma weapons. O.O Not a bad list, though I'd be more inclined to take heavy bolters in tactical squads, snap shot on the move. And grav cannons on centurion devastators are just too disgusting to pass up and being the same price as a twin linked las, I think they're the better option.
True, it's a good choice for fighting power armored foes. I'm partial to bombarding them with thunderfire cannons, they are so accurate that they cause too many wounds for them to resist. Plus they make Orks cry. XD Centurions are surprisingly skilled at hitting flyers, in one turn I destroyed two dakkajets with my centurions armed with grav cannons. Dragged them out of the sky.
