This page is two things: A commission for my good friend
lechevalier ( he'll receive the original 11 x 17 artwork ),and It's also the beginning of my work on a full-length,all original Ace and Queenie Grpahic Novel...THE BROKEN CROSS GAMBIT,in which Alex and Denise encounter the mad French Aristocrat / religious fanatic / Assassin-for-hire the Marquis De Languedoc, alias "The Huguenot",a character created by
lechevalier . The Marquis immediately captivated my imagination, and when this novel is finally completed,I fully intend to give
lechevalier full and equal story credit for conceiving this amazing character.

This isn't the first page of the GN,just the first fully realized scene in the story. The Marquis is greatly displeased to learn that he has suffered considerable losses in the American stock market, and is pushed over the edge when his American Broker tries to persuade him to open his estate to tourism,as many of his peers have done.Incidentally, the Marquis' castle is based on an actual French castle...the Chateau Saumur.
For the art style in this story,I'm going back just a little bit to the Monkey Punch influenced style of the early A & Q chapters in FURRLOUGH,but hopefully more refined and less scribbly.
So now I have three A & Q projects going....The print series in FURRLOUGH,the webcomic (the resumption of which is next on my to-do list) and now, this GN....For the time being, the GN will have to be a "Spare time" endeavour, but now that I've started,I'm determined to see it through. It's my hope that Radio Comix will want to publish it.

Thanks! I appreciate that very much!
People have asked me that before, and this is my answer...The world A & Q inhabit is very close to our own...I would have to say modern day if for no other reason than the fact that modern technology is present-computers,the internet, cell phones,etc.-the key difference is that the look and feel of A & Q's world is indeed that of the late 1960's to early 1970's. I'm talking in terms of fashion, hairstyles, architecture, vehicles, furnishings and decor,etc.-a friend of mine described it as "Mid-century modern"...which I think sums it up pretty well.
Thanks! Though,like I said this isn't the
first
page....There'll be at least a few pages leading up to this, including very likely a brief historical flashback about the persecution of the Huguenots in the 1600s,augmented by the fictional idea that few of them were so embittered that they formed a secret sect dedicating themselves and their descendants to a perpetual campaign of revenge against their tormentors.
