Sometimes abandoned boardwalks on misty overgrown beaches ought to be left alone.

Two children were drawn to strange lights they saw on the beach one foggy evening, they were surprised to find a gloomy-looking boardwalk along the beach they had trodden so often in daylight and had never seen before. What was it doing there? They were now lost in the fog anyway so they went into the old boardwalk. The old boards creaked and the black ocean was lapping gently below the wooden walkway. A worn wooden sign was swinging above the entrance by rusty old chains. As the children drew nearer two words came into view, carved messily into the sign: "Pleasure Island"

The soft lights twinkled innocently.
