For someone who's completely nerdy about wolves I don't do wolf-related art often. :B Wolves are probably the animals I know the most about, in my big list of fav animals. I respect them very much for their social system inside their pack, their intelligence, stamina, discipline, love for freedom, and will of iron. You have to turn wolves into handicapped dogs before you can have them as tame pets. You never see wolves in a circus either, because it's easier to tame a tiger or an elephant. I read stories about a human-raised wolf that strangled himself fighting against the leash people pulled him around with during their nomadic life. He would have been completely unharmed if he gave in like a dog. Talk about true dignity and love for freedom. (Edit: Not saying it's impossible to have a good relationship with wolves, but you will be the one following their rules in order to be accepted. Not vice versa.)

Finding it awesome that the wolves are having a comeback popularity-wise. Except it's kinda sad only few wolf fans actually realize what it means that they're carnivores. Population control for herbivores doesn't only mean wolves eat the old and sick, they'll also eat babies and pregnant females, for example. Or embryos, while they're at eating the pregnant. When I watch this happen, I'm trying to remind myself that herbivores do the exact same thing to plants that can't run nor hide from anything. Herbivores even trample them down without eating them. So there's no oh so innocent animal on any side, no matter how cute they look.

Nature is cruel, it really is. And I don't mean to glorify death at all, just saying these sacrifices you see in nature are needed to keep the circle of life rolling. You need a good healthy number of everything.

In the sensitive grassland of Mongolia, for example, some people decided to hunt wolves into extinction. Now it became a growing desert due to an over-population of wild mice, rabbits, groundhogs, and gazelles that kill off the ground and plants. Just like the sheep, horses, and cattle of the farmers do which got over-populated too.

In the end, humans seem more terrifying than the animals they're scared of.
