This puppet is a collaboration with
tioh!
Monica was one of the main characters for this year's EF pawpetshow. Up until short before the deadline I wasn't even sure yet what species she was going to be... luckily Tioh already had a body base made and the moment I told him she'd be a marten he built the headbase at lightning speed and sent everything to me. What I got in the mail from him can be seen in the left picture in the 2nd row!
It was interesting to work on this base as Tioh's methods are vastly different from mine. My work is less technical and more... carvy foamy.
I hardly changed anything on the base, I just changed the feet a little and added some foam to the heels and noseridge. Of course the nose, ears, teeth and eyelids were added later as well.
There was not much time to finish her, so I tried to work as effeciently as possible, since she is a stage puppet and wouldn't be seen from up close. She is entirely furred with leftovers I had from previous projects. Of course I couldn't help but handsew everything, so it still took pretty long, haha. Luckily
karpour helped out with sewing, and came in handy at times where one pair of hands just wasn't enough.
tanidareal did a great job portraying her in the show, and it seems people liked her!

Wow. Is it possible to see more high resolution photos of the basic frame before you put the fur on? Did you sew the fur as a suit then slid it onto the body or did you hot glue it onto the foam body? I'm trying to think how you'd slip that frame into a the finished fursuit but I can't imagine how it'd work. When I made a few puppets, I just build the body like a plushy and filled the body with polyfill but you have foam pieces which gives it a more defined face. I love all the details like the eyelids move, the eyes, nose and eyelashes. :) Very nice work.
It's kind of both. The frame is pretty solid and does not bend aside from the joints. The fur on the head is glued on, but most of the body is slipped on. If I remember correctly it's also glued on part of the legs and at the arm opening and feet, because sliding the entire shape over a hard base like that would simply be impossible.
The previous puppet I made was completely different, it was a hollow foam shell that you could squish and fold up entirely.

Oh, should also mention that the head base was seperate from the body, it is just lying on top there on the photo. I made the neck quite a bit longer so her neck is basically a sock/sleeve made out of just fur, making it very flexible. She just looks very silly when there is no arm in there.
