Since this was a (supposed) to be a quicker picture I just used a texture, which i'd doubled up on itself, offset by a bit and each layer on a different mode to create some depth.

Hmm.

Well I may not have any business offering critique, but I think the chain mail kinda breaks the immersion, what with the exact digital pattern amidst the organic strokes on the plate.
