Yup I am a Ham Radio Operator and this is one of several antennas that are here on the farm. I actually put this up (A no no) by myself..
Its being used for a new repeater I own to allow those near Southport/Oak Island/ Holden Beach to chat.
A repeater (For those who dont know rebroadcast your communications on an input frequency onto an output frequency for others to hear it. This is called a split or in/output. This repeater "hears on 449.700 and transmits on 444.700. All the listeners will listen to the transmit side and talk on the receive side, kinda like a phone. This is called Duplex operation.)

You sneaky little thing you, sending me pics and refrences,, got me loving it. That tower near you has been heard around the world, but its a shame its being killed off. I would love to go and preserve the place but not for long wave transmissions but more modern things like hd radio or better yet some good tv or something. Hell maybe a tour stop.?
yup Just range tested it.. in the truck. I got 14 miles before I could not key it at all. Thats not bad considering its only 10 watts. And ots only up 30 feet. It look tall here because this mast collapsed at the 30 foot mark It was old cast pipe I had just to see how far it would go. The new mast is actual top fence railing with a double wall.
