In a strange twist to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I wanted to draw something inspired by the music of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCaH-qqTWpk and how this picture formed in my mind’s eye.

In a small Asian village, in a simple time where magic & mysticism mists the land like the morning dew, and in this village…. A kindly schoolteacher has a dear daughter who was as bold as a boy, patient as a mother, and had hidden treasures of knowledge like a locked scroll. She had skin as pale as the moon & hair like the flames of the temple's torches. Freckles kissed her by the sun as she was always running about exploring the fields & woods & shores…. Her name is April aka Udzuki 卯月 .

She clamored about taking the children of the class on field trips to explore the world around them. She showed them where the caves were that hid a great sleeping bear who wakes only every fifty years. She had shown them what flowers were medicinal or deadly to touch. She made sure the children and animals were cared for. If there was a child sad, she was there holding them in her lap, stroking their hair. If there was a child who was bad, she was there to knock them down a few pegs.

Needles to say, she was a great teacher’s assistant. Her dream, to one day be a priestess of the temple of the great Sensei, the Rat who is the great teacher of wisdom & harmony…. Moreover, under the rat sensei was his children, the kappas of the elements.

In this world, all the greatest attributes are symbolized by the kappas.

The blue kappa is leadership, integrity, and justice.

The red kappa is courage, protection, and family

The orange kappa is heart, love, & joy…..but mostly fun.

The violet kappa is knowledge, learning, and inquisitiveness



She lit incense for each of their statues and to the great rat teacher. Her father and her both taught their teachings… and even at times, her father hosted them at his small school for when they gave lectures or demonstrated outside the temple, when they felt generous to do so. The kappas were held in great esteem. They venerate these characteristics to those who would be leader’s one day.

Her goal was to be a priestess to the temple where she too will be able to pass down the great Master of Wisdom & Harmony’s teachings. To write great scrolls of the world around them... to finally meet & speak with the great Master.

However, her destiny & her goal took separate paths one fateful day when she dove into the watery shore of a sleeping dragon’s lair to collect the crystals that grew around the entrance….
At the same time, there was the violet kappa studying the dragon … When she swam past him….

She had caught the eye of a studious violet kappa… & their lives were changed…forever.

Now there lives intertwine, & connected in such depth.
She agreed to give her hand to the kappa. To become … “The Turtle’s Bride”…
