For the curious: The anime is called ぎんぎつね (Gingitsune, literally Silver Fox), and those two are the main characters.
The anthropomorphic fox on the left is Gintaro (silver Taro), a messenger spirit for Inari (goddess of rice and foxes) at a shrine to the rice spirits Uga-no-Mitama. He's kind of lazy and rude, but has the power to see a short time into the future and find lost things.
The girl is Makoto (The Truth), and she's a fifteenth-generation shrine maiden. She's the only one who can see Gintaro, and has struck up a friendship with him. Together they try to help the spirits and the people who come to the shrine.
