Finally got mentalray to render him. seems like it's an issue with 'too much' fur raytracing causing mentalray to crap out.
So. I disabled all auxiliary features from recieving or casing shadows onto the fur. and whala. but it still takes around half an hour minimum to render a frame unfortunately.
