He alighted on a balcony near the tall tower. He figured he’d start at the top and work his way down. All the stories about this castle ended the same way, adventurers went in through the door, and died or worse. Nobody ever returned. He pashed a rather angry looking gargoyle, and swore it was watching him.
The Dragon shrugged it off and pushed the marble doors open. He went room from room, surprised at how different they were. Some chambers were torn and ransacked, others pristine and untouched. The skeletons of past intruders were an unsettling sight. He hadn’t been in the castle long when he felt it. The spirits nipping at his scales.
He shuddered and was wracked with a horrible pain, spirits howling in his ears. He tried to run back out through the chambers, and fly past the empty balcony into the night. His walk was labored, and his body trembled as he moved, something had entered him, and was clawing it’s way out. As he pushed off the balcony, the gargoyle was gone, but the sudden awareness of other creatures sharing his body took priority. He roared and raged in the dead air, but eventually he saw it as a strength, at least four souls had bonded themselves to him, and instilled him with a new purpose.
Too many creatures were entering through the air, he would guard the castle as it moved and protect it from the air. His unearthly howls echoed through the barren hills. He took to his new role with satisfaction.
