Actually, they technically are. ;3
Skunks and other members of family Mephitidae fall under superfamily Musteloidea. Check out this page from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum for more info.
But thank you for pointing it out - it could be argued that skunks are mephits, not mustelids. But in point of fact, mephits are mustelids ;3
