myself and the famous General Robert E. Lee... i have a physical handicap and when i walked up to salute him, i did so with my left hand not my right he looked at me and this was the conversation that followed:

me: salutes* general lee sir.. may I ask permission to have my picture with you?
general lee: very well...
general lee: is there something wrong with your hand young man?
me: y- yes sir
general lee: speak freely I see you have more to say…
me: I have cerebraal palsy sir..this condition can not be cured sir
general lee: I see…who do you serve under?
me: general Davis sir, 42nd Mississippi Co. I
general lee: what is your duty son?
me: color bearer sir
general lee: *stands out of his chair and salutes me* I have a great amount of respect for you young man…..here I have something for you, it may help you in the future.
(he then goes to his desk and gets a pencil and paper and proceeds to write me a pardon allowing me to salute with my left and not be reprimanded for it)
me: thank you sir..I really appreciate it
general lee: you are very welcome... now, come over here and lets get you that picture you asked for
