While looking for that buff orpington chicken study, I came across some work that I never uploaded here for some reason. This was a quick little concept drawing done for fun/practice.
My AMAZINGLY AWESOME AND TALENTED friend Sam made a 3d model out of my little sketch that truly blows my mind. Take a look and have your mind blown too:

Haha yeah, I did too, though I don't do it anymore. xD And I'm not the ace modeler you are! I liked animating more than the modeling. :)
You can see some of my goofy 3d work on my vimeo if you're curious xD http://vimeo.com/lizliu/videos

8O What school did you go to? I went to Ringling... but they pushed me so hard I dropped/failed out. And this is why I'm 100k in debt, as I've explained. : P Unfortunately they graded me on my animation, not my modeling... so... yeah.
I'ma take a look at these. ouo Who knows, we might make a great team for a project someday. I honestly can't stand rigging/complex animation. Drives me nuts. xD I can do a basic walk cycle when I'm /REALLY determined. But yeah... xD

Haha oh man that's so funny, I LOVE rigging and animating! They're my favorite part of the pipeline, with lighting and rendering next. xD It's the modeling I'm least enthusiastic about. xD I love 3d but it is so very time consuming. Maybe one day we could collaborate on a project. ^^
That sucks about Ringling, so sorry to hear that. :( I graduated from CMU, another overpriced art school. xD

They're all overpriced! 8D If you think that's bad, try full sail.
I tried out for CMU... and was accepted. But Ringling was the only place I wanted to go at the time. God knows why. e.e; I was an idiot... going to college right at the start of the economic crash. Wheee~

Definitely, I would never recommend anyone ever go to art school! (Unless it was for 3d, in which case I'd recommend the less expensive and much more focused and well taught places like Gnomon) I didn't learn anything with regards to 2d art from my school. xD
I graduated the year after the economic crash, so if you had gone to CMU we might've bumped into each other during my senior year! Wouldn't that have been crazy! 8D

Oh no, we would have... not having the slightest idea... xD
Ringling gave me an excellent education, yet I can't really get a job in the field. Not even sure I'd want one. xD My drawing/color teacher was AMAZING... She could critique abstract art all day. And she's the one that made me realize that abstract art really IS art. ...and it's less about the time in execution, and more about the thought process behind it.

I bet you'd be able to if you lived in New York, one of my other friends works in NYC as a freelance 3d modeler, he's enjoys character modeling the most, but he also models many environments for his jobs.
Yeah, once you realize that with abstract and modern art the main point is in the concept/idea/process and not necessarily the end product, they all make a lot more sense and seem less random.
I had some lovely professors I learned much from, but nothing really related to actual technique, ahaha. xD

Yeah. A lot of teachers kinda leave that up to you. And... I mean... it makes sense. They can't really teach you how to put the paint on the paper, they can only teach you how to see. To each their own as far as style. My biggest problem is... I have no style. xD And if I don't now, I certainly didn't then. I wanted to try everything! ...which... as you can imagine... for animation... was very very bad. xD
I disagree to a certain extent, there's a lot of things you can teach to a 2d student. Perspective, anatomy, and color theory being some big ones that come to mind. You can learn these things, most art colleges don't teach them very in depth - but there are ateliers that teach them. There are a bunch in New York that some friends I know have gone to and speak highly of. :) Like the Art Students League or Grand Central Academy of Art.
And, of course, you can learn such things from the internet. >)

Yuh... While this is true, I was more referring to 2D animation. I had to take a whole year of it, and it was the bane of my existence. xD My art style changes so frequently it was almost impossible to animate. I'm always improving if nothing else, so my character would... evolve... through the 700 frames or whatever it turned out to be. It was horrible. xD
