Kitty is making a kind of bobbin lace called torchon. Hard to believe all lace used to be made by hand. This kind of lace uses bobbins twisted around each other in pairs, with the resulting stitches being pinned to a pillow. I used to make bobbin lace but not very complicated. It can use hundreds of bobbins (think chantilly lace - all made by hand in days past). Of course the most fun part is collecting the little beads to use as spangles on the ends of the bobbin for weight. Acrylic on paper aceo size. Costume is roughly french but not really meant to be 100% authentic - sometimes I get sick of researching every niggling detail. But probably close enough. What can I say, it's friday and I'm cranky.
