For the Epic Win! Any kinda TFing is great, but there is just something really magical about random TFing.

It is a literary device often used to solve extremely complex problems in a "god did it." Say for example, you put your main character in mortal danger. Suddenly, an angel swoops down and saves him. That would be a deux-ex machina.

It is going outside the bounds of your original intent to solve something. It has a thousand different faces in literature. But all this is a bit complex for someone who has just been turned into a California squish rat.
