A Huskute's Tail
Prologue
So much had happened in Rowan's last school year, for a start he had managed to get his first girlfriend at secondary school.
This was his first mistake.
During their short time going out, Rowan tried to make up for not being strong, sexy or overly 'fun', with romance, he bought roses for her, chocolate and always ensured she was feeling happy. Jess was a short beagle with caramel brown and white fur, and she was very sweet, at least that's what Rowan believed. She thought Rowan was a gentleman, secure, a good listener and very loyal, Rowan did not speak about the other girls in his year at all, or other couples. But he did offer on numerous occasions if she wanted to go out for dinner or go to town, watch a film. For unknown reasons to Rowan, Jess always said no.
Things were going fine, until a tall coyote with a horrific reputation in school decided to try and harass the Huskute's girlfriend in the middle of a history class. Rowan swiftly got up, guiding the distressed beagle behind himself and blocking the coyotes way, he was shorter than the coyote but he did not raise his head to look at him. “Could you please leave her alone?” Rowan spoke with confidence. Feeling a sense of duty, he didn't see it at the time but the huskute would live to learn from his naive manner. The coyote grinned wildly at the smaller canine looking at him amused “And what are you going to do about it Rowan?”
“I will remain in your way” Rowan responded, standing straight backed, his white ears pricked up, alert.
But in the next moment, he felt the impact of two paws shoving against his uniform clad torso, Rowan saw the world tip upside down as he fell backwards over a chair, he barred his teeth as he heard the bang as his heat clipped the corner of the desk. A sharp pain swelled up from where it struck. Rowan stood up, managing to recover to his foot-paws rather swiftly, regaining his composure. This was Rowan's rule in life: be a gentleman. And he was not going to ruin his reputation by striking back at his tormentor.
Luckily, the teacher removed the coyote from the classroom. Rowan turned calmly to Jess “Are you all right Jess?” he asked, a look of worry on his white furred face. The short beagle looked him up and down before turning on the spot and walked out of the classroom without a word.
It was no surprise and much of a relief to Rowan that he ended their relationship after the Christmas holidays. He had planned on doing it before, but thought better of it, after all didn't everyone deserve peace at Christmas?
Though that Christmas did give knowledge to him that he hadn't had before. Rowan had his suspicions about himself for a while. No girls really actually attracted him, and he had begun to notice attractions to some of the guys in his year. He knew in his heart that he was indeed gay. This fact troubled him all Christmas.
And it is learning this fact, that the young fur had to get used to.
