OPPOSITE ON THE INSIDE

In the sky there’s a cloud with a silver lining
Symbolizing hope and the better side of things
But ironically it’s a thundercloud
Inevitably it’s raining now
Tears drizzling past my shoulder onto the sidewalk
Loneliness of a city where everything has died or never lived.

In the clouds there’s a rainbow after a storm
Symbolizing hope and happiness reborn
But ironically it fades away
Inevitably nothing’s left but gray
It’s nothing but a bleeding memory now
Loneliness of a cemetery where everything forgotten lies.

In the sunset there’s a shadow against the wall
The only other person in the city where I walk
But ironically night draws near
Inevitably it disappears
Broken pieces never put together right again
How strange it feels to be opposite on the inside.
