You guys are really surprising me with how uniform your intentions are. It went from ties to extremely clear winners. Hm... Maybe I'll get some variety with this one!
Many thanks to

NateEclipse for helping me out of a pinch I was in. XP I originally had another encounter planned, but things fell through for... reasons.
You know what? It’s a big scary world and you don’t want to go it alone. That’s what the Ekans did and in a few hours, he’ll be fertilizing a bush somewhere!
You step out from your bush and clear your throat. “Hi guys! I couldn’t help but overhear your discussion! Have either of you ever considered the pleasing nature of a nice pair of melons?” Ok, that might not have been the best way to start a conversation; both the Meowth and the Charmander have stopped arguing and are staring at you now.
As you feel yourself withering under their stares, you are reminded that you’re no longer in the world of humans. With the exception of Jinx, most Pokemon don’t have melons. These two probably think you’re crazy now. “Uh… what about a nice plump belly?”
After a few more moments of silence, the Meowth steps forward. “I like the way you think. But butts are still where it’s at.” He extends a paw. “The name’s Josh, you might have heard of me. I’m pretty awesome.” You stare at the paw for a moment and then cautiously shake it with a foreleg. Maybe he is someone important, but you just woke up as a Pokemon yesterday. And sharing that information… probably not a good idea.
The Meowth continues. “And this little foot-lover over here is Nate. He’s my sidekick.” Feeling the spotlight on him, the Charmander lets out a little meep and waves at you shyly. “Do you have a name?”
You quickly introduce yourself to the pair, making up a story on the spot that you were wandering with another group of Trapinch and got really lost, ending up in your bush after being attacked by an Ekans. Your belly stays quiet, not objecting or denying this statement. As soon as you stop talking, much to your surprise, the Meowth darts around you, grabs one of your hind legs, and lifts you into the air. “My my my, you have a pretty cute little tush on you.”
Turning fifteen different shades of red, you yank yourself away from the cat. “Er… I… uh… w-what are you doing out here?”
“A good friend of mine is starting up an exploration team, and he requested my expertise and strength!” The Meowth flexes as you wonder if that’s really what his friend said. “He also told me to bring one of my buddies who I thought would prove valuable. He’s only got two spots open at the moment.”
Exploration team? Two spots open? Hm… this could be a valuable opportunity. Being on an exploration team could be exciting, and they’d definitely provide room and board, as well as some protection against jerkish little Poison types. And heck, you might even get another good meal out of it!
But there’s one problem… Josh plus Nate plus you… definitely does not equal two… So either you’re out of luck… or you could fix the math. The Meowth seems like he’d definitely be a good addition, but he might try to take things over and push you around a bit. The Charmander could be an equally good choice, but he might let you unintentionally walk all over him and you don’t want to make all the decisions… But you have no idea how the one you don’t attack will react to your choice. Or you could possibly remove both of them from the equation, find their friend, and just say you never met them.

If we attack one, we might as well attack both. We'll see about who lives and who dies as the battle goes forth. It's possible one might surrender and submit to our will. If not, we get all the more experience out of them.
((Also, no harm to Josh or Nate directly, but, business is business in this case.))

Hmmm. Tough choice. I've heard Meowth can be yummy, but a bit on the stringy side... Charmanders are meatier thopugh, but have that extra kick in the spice area...
Let's sat Eat the Charmander. , since I doubt Josh would do anything but fondle Nate's bum if it's the last to go down. :P

Might want to take control of a situation if things get hairy. You'd need someone to listen to you. Then again, you wouldn't want the shame of being overly humiliated when it's high time to negotiate. Dominant personalities tend to get in the way. You could either eliminate both, meowth, then charmander, or you could bid them farewell and try to get into this adventuring quad on your own.
