I finished this guy just last week. He's the lord of a bolt of force to my Emperor's Children Chaos Marines. More a renegade forece than anything else but this new force brings my Chaos legions up to 4000 points.
Enter the Wyrm Lords!
Who said green had to be for Nurgle ;)

Nice paint job. Demon weapon = ? 4K's alot of marines. I have about that many for my infantry nurgle- no vehicles, compensated with heavy firepower(I played bugs first, and never got the hang of painting vehicles well). But that was old rules, garhrhrhrhghgh. Whats on this guy? Spiky bits, demon weapon, term armour and a combi chaingun?
Ugh, i can't stand the new book ;) Because its EXACTLY LIKE THE OLD(3rd ed) book!!! ajrlajrlskhjgohdsoihaosdfha *Face explodes everywhere* Well, not *exactly*, but its SO similar.
Plus I miss individual stat upgrades! Whats on that demon prince? NO ONE KNOWS! (Flails arms and makes spooky noises)

oh stop crying, the list is actually a hell of alot easier to use than the previous book and it gets rid of all the stupid special rules you have to keep track of. the fact that your characters get a 5+ invulnerable save as standard now is a huge improvement.
The toneing down of the daemons was also a good move with GW wanting to expand on the daemons as a separate army. It makes the army lists more unique and you don't get all the power gamers trying to make a hyper character to do all the work, that is not the point of the game. The game is about your units of infantry doing the work.
To be honest characters look like they're going to fit into the role they should have been doing since Second Edition, they provide a boost to your foot sloggers either in combat or at range or providing a bonus to your army. the balance is very fine and I personally welcome it, as it relys on good generalship and proper manuvering now thater than a be all and end all character who is nigh on impossible to kill.
I acctually like the lesser powered Daemon Prince (or is it Daemon Ponce) as it fits far better in to a renegade army now (which is what the codex focuses on as the cult armies will apparently get their own full list in the future). Besides the new new Daemons of Chaos books have massivly customisable Daemon Princes (now where they belong in my opinion).

Who's crying? I don't feel like playing 2nd ed again, lol. I'm sticking with bugs, which are universally playable as "Holy shit thats alot of hormagaunts", and you never have to worry about the tactics of your army changing overnight.
That's assuming you have some asshat(I knew a few) who built horrible, horrible 300+ point characters, and then had, like.. three defilers in their army. Speaking of cheese. The ability to neglect characters altogether(Of course alloting for the one mandatory like.. sorcerer or something), and just buffing your squad leaders with a power weapon, +1S and +1A made the army formidable enough. I just can't stand all the S4 v T4 that goes on in 40K. It was a nice change of pace, for once. The list wasn't hard to use at all, it was as straightforeward or as complicated as you cared to make it, and with a few WD addendums made it cheese-proof. As far as a 5+ Invul.. I think we all recall how useful those were from the redclaw days, lol. I'll take a 2+ armour any day of the week. Not that an invul will matter if your guy is squished in with a unit. But like everything else, its' all a matter of personal preference. I prefer the tactical-heavy Fantasy to 40K, but the models in 40K are just so much nicer that I had to pick up an army or two.
I know there's a night lords and alpha legion book in the works, and I think alpha legion is coming out first.

ok you have your 2+ save and drop your 5+ invunerable....
SQUAD!.... Plasma guns at the ready.... FIRE!!!
;)
I do agree that some of the army choices for chaos can be a heavy slice of Gorgonzolla with a very impressive beard but when you think about it they're not that bad if you know how to deal with them. the defilers are a cake walk because they are technically just as vulnerable as dreadnoughts (and more of a fire magnet due to them mounting a battle cannon)my opening turns in a game I'll go vehicle sniping and usually be better for it (even if I go second) I've never met a chaos vehicle I couldn't low up by turn two :)
