Isn't tattoo ink's gamut extremely limited? I was under the impression (though it could easily be false) that there are very few colors to work with, and skin tone skews the color palette. I guess I was thinking mostly of Grape's purple, a color I've never seen in a tattoo, and the oranges, which are touchy colors in most media.
Unfortunately, I'm not very experienced with tattoo art, so my view shouldn't be taken as fact, and I welcome a correction to any misconceptions that I may have with the medium.

It's true that depending on your skin color that will distort the colors to some extent, and you're right at one time there were pretty limited options, but now a days there's a wide range of hues out there. http://99tattoodesigns.com/wp-conte.....owl-tattoo.jpg

The centre is Totoro, from My Neighbour Totoro. Probably the most instantly recognised character from Studio Ghibli (He cameos in Toy Story 3, Bob's Burgers and is referenced throughout a South Park episode, just off the top of my head.
Bottom left corner is Terry Pratchett's Death of Rats from his book series Discworld. No reason you should recognise him unless you're a fan of the series, because he's mostly a written character, and there's only the odd picture of him floating about (mostly fan drawn).
Bottom right cat in suit I have no idea. Someone above says it's Baron from The Cat Returns. No idea if that's true.
