They all thought it would be fun. A bracelet to that claimed to be able to switch two people's minds and souls and put them in each other's bodies. The young canine girl had switched with her boyfriend Ashley, and her lover's best friend had switched with Mikaela, her best friend. At first they had simply been fascinated by their new bodies and accompanying reflections. Ashley had kissed her boyfriend, excited by the prospect of being the male in their relationship. Now that he wore her body, he allowed his girlfriend to do as he wished.
The four friends enjoyed a night in a form vastly different from their own, each taking their liberties as they might with a new body, though anything beyond groping was off limits. It wasn't long before the four got drunk, and Ashley and Mikaela passed out on the bed.
The next morning, Ashley stirred to the unusual sensation of a morning wood. He let Mikaela sleep while he turned on the news and felt his heart rise into his chest.
"Good Morning, Local Viewers. Last night, at approximately midnight, an 18 wheeler struck a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Fifth and Maple. The passengers, a young elephant and a saluki, have been killed." Ashley felt sick. He fell forward and vomited onto the floor. There was her body, on the news, battered and broken. She was dead, no question about it. The same was true for her boyfriend's best friend. They were trapped in their new bodies and new lives forever.
"It can't be true." He looked at his hand and back at the news. "My body's dead. I'm stuck like this." The bent wreckage of the body swap bracelet sealed their fate. Ashley looked at Mikaela, who still slept in his new body. He touched her webbed hand. "Better get used to that body, girl. You're stuck in it now," he whispered. For now, he would let the new platypus sleep. For at least a few more hours, he could live under the illusion that he could return to his body.

Yeah, that was kind of unavoidable. Basically, 'Ashley' is now in her boyfriend's body, the gemsbok. He was in her Saluki body and died, trapping her in his.
Mikaela was the being formerly an elephant now trapped in a female platypus. The platypus was a friend of the other three. Now they are both stuck in these new bodies.

Well, I had always intended to only keep around two characters, one of the two sets on either side of the mirror. I fell in love with these two so I kept the gemsbok and platypus.
They are indeed gone, as the idea here was to create a scenario (one of three interconnected scenarios) where the characters couldn't just go back to normal. They're trapped in their new forms, with Ashley wearing her boyfriend's body and Mikaela trapped in her new female form.

It's an interesting idea. All in all, the grand story seems like it would play out like a slightly more somber Freaky Friday (or any of those other body-swapping movies). Dealing with the deaths of close friends on top of now carrying on their lives would be a solid story overall. Why isn't the other reflection reaching back, though?
Well, the thing with most situations is that it is the tf or whatnot is over right away or quickly enough. In the 'trapped' series, there will be three couples that are more or less stuck through different methods, and can't just 'go back'. So I think it's more fun this way. As for that, I think I'd put that in the description, but i don't usually correct artists when they make minor variations like that.
Oh yeah. I wasn't saying that they needed to be able to switch back. I think that, at least for this part of the story, the bigger shock is that their bodies died (as did the egos that were sleeved in them). It's about dealing with a lot of sudden shocks in your life all at once. There's also sort of a strange existential/spiritual quandary in it as well: thrust into this life, what do you do now? Do you continue your own plans for the future or do you attempt to carry on those of the ego who died where you were supposed to?
On top of that is the show part of being a completely different species and gender than you were before. And also the worries about the magic that brought you to this point. What if it starts to fade over time? If it wasn't intended for a permanent swap like this? If the death of one partner is an unknowing death sentence for the other?
A lot of ideas and a lot of directions.

Im a bit confused ^^;
If Ashley is the dog, and switched with her boyfriend the Saluki, and Mikaela is the platypus and switched with the elephant, and the elephant and platypus both died, wouldnt Ashley and Mikaela be dead? or did the boyfriend and other friend take on the names of the girls when they switched?

*puts it through the rusty gears I call a brain* so, the saluki and plat. are Ash and Mikaela, and when the--wait *shakes head to clear it*
The wording is a bit off, if you dont mind me saying ^^; I looked at the other 2 in the series, and based on those, the news caster should say that a dog and elephant were in a crash, unless a saluki is a type of dog (but from context I'd say it isnt)
