F5 in a minute
I'd like to thank everyone who supported me; thanks to Iron Artist I was able to pretty much cover my medical bills from, oh, about this time last year. This was a really enormous and at times stressful undertaking so I'd also like to thank everyone who had patience with me, as it took a couple months longer than I originally anticipated.
Each individual picture here, although drawn on the same template as I do the Housepets comic, does NOT take the same amount of time as a Housepets panel. (For one, I need to take up the entire box with picture, instead of leaving out the top third. For two, every picture that required a background to set it got a background. For three, I needed to compose every picture individually, which is much different from composing a comic all at once.)
When I started in February, I was still absolutely unsure about this whole "inking in real life" thing. In the Housepets comic, even though I decided after I got back from the hospital that I would be doing the comic's art entirely in ink, I still had not enough sense of balance or proportion.
I think I got the hang of it by March. So the rest of this was just gravy.
Being that it's been one of the first years in a very long time I have not been suffering from a chronic illness, instead of forcing my butt into a chair that I did not feel like being in, I also have been teaching myself how to find joy in every picture, even when I'm on the brink of going mad or having an emotional breakdown, or simply don't have enough time. But I make time. Because I care about the product. I try not to rush, I try and work through problems rather than throwing up my hands and saying "decent enough". I make myself be satisfied with what I put down with pencil before I commit it to ink, and I don't stop until it works.
It's not always perfect. But it's not going to even get there unless I put the time and energy into getting as close as I can.
So thanks again for sticking with me through this, even though it basically took all year.

It is SUCH a relief to be done.
I don't think I'm going to be doing any more commissions this year, and I don't think I'll be doing another Iron Artist. When I do commissions in the future I think I might gear toward doing big color pieces, as that's the next major thing I need to improve on. (It helps that I have Manga Studio 5, which is much better for coloring than Photoshop, and also I have done several successful marker pieces . . .)

We'll in the same breath, I'm glad you stuck with us too. Because believe it not your art brings a smile to many faces on the net, and though your times are hardship and plowing through these might have brought you to the point of frustration and whatnot, it shows you have a lot of character to not be satisfied wit your work, but to push forward with it. Hope ya always keep pushing forward ;p and as everyone above has said, and probably be,low will say too.... Amazing job on ALL of these! :3
When you see them like that it really puts it into a different perspective. You should be proud of your self, that's quiet bit of work you have accomplished. And I'm glad I managed to get in on it and I personally did not mind waiting a year, life happens things take longer. Good job Rick very good job.
Rick, it was a real pleasure getting the Iron Artist from you. The wait never really bothered me because I knew you had issues you were dealing with, in addition to Housepets! and your writing, so the wait was understandable. If I can ever scrounge up the money and manage to snatch a commission when you do open for them, then I will, but until then take care hun. You're an amazing writer and artist, I'm proud to be your fan. You've done so well, even if it might not feel like it sometimes, and you can totally keep going (24-36 method man, brilliant); this Iron Artist is a testament to that. Love and luck Rick; you know where to find me if you're ever up for a chat =)
Congratulations! and Again, Thank you for letting me be a part of such a monuments achievement. I'm glad you've managed to pay off your medical bills but even more happy to hear you've gained some confidence in your art. You are truly a gifted artist, and on a side note writer, I still re-read Argo when I've got an hour to burn. I am more than happy to try to help support you in whatever small way I can. Please let me know of there is ever any chance to commission you in the future
I found this quite late and I really can't come up with anything profound to say, so I'll have to settle for telling you that I love your art work and both look forward to more and hope to get a chance to commission you at some point in the future. (If you're open currently, apologies, I'm working through a 4 month backlog and I'm sure other people will snap up the spots long before I get to one.
Keep up the amazing work!
