I didn't finish the tail in time for the
trianglefurs Thanksgiving meet yesterday, but after some work last night and today I *finally* have a completed partial for the second iteration of Kaynus.
This has definitely been a learning process. I'm trying out several new things and taking some risks, and, while they have mostly been good, it is also making it clear just how much I still have to learn about fursuit building, heh. The curl in the tail (for example) was unintentional, but I actually like how it turned out. :) What you don't see is the first fully sewn (but not stuffed) version of the tail which ended up cork-screwing in on itself. Yay for pattern pieces being slightly off from each other!
Anyway, the next step is to finish off a bodysuit (and hopefully a superhero "disguise") before Furry Fiesta in February, which seems really attainable. For now, though...I'm ready for a break from sewing, ha ha ha.

The jumping pics ROCK! Love the footpaw coming at the camera like that, dang that must have taken some orchestration to get right :).
Really digging this design, the tactical use of grey fur throughout has an impressive result. I can so see the fullsuit of this having grey down the legs too, mimicing the layout of the fur on the arms in fact.
Kudos on the awesome head too :). Talk about taking all the lessons from v1 to heart! Very impressed here! SQUEEE I GET TO SUIT WITH YOU IN A FEW DAYS!!!!!

Ha ha ha, thanks! I'm surprised I got the timing right on the kicking pictures--I have the camera flash recharging for the second (of 2) pictures to thank for that. And yes, I definitely have been applying all of the things I learned not to do (and to do) from v1 to v2, but now I already have a list of things to fix and things to keep for v3, heh.
Biggest thing to keep? The way I did the partial sleeves. Velcro at the tops of each sleeve that attaches to velcro sewn onto the sleeve of a technical undershirt = awesomeness. The partial sleeves stay in place with no elastic connectors and everything is still easily washable. I can even connect and disconnect the fur sleeves without taking the top t-shirt off. :D

Thanks so much! :D It has really been a commitment (someone asked me earlier about how many hours I had dumped into the suit so far, and my best guess was around 90, including having to re-work the tail completely) but I am really happy with how it's turning out. It makes me wish that I had more time to devote to just building suits and getting better at them, heh. Definitely looking forward to being at the meets next year with a completed fullsuit of the new Kaynus! :)
Ha ha ha ha ha, well, I don't want to change the character design at all because I like the markings too much, but, yeah, getting all those colors to line up correctly when building any of these parts is a challenge. :P Maybe for some future suit I'll choose something simple just to see how it feels to not have to worry about getting a perfect match on seam allowances for a long 2" wide meandering brown stripe, heh.
I got a few of those airborne shots, and they were a lot of fun. :D The partial is pretty easy to deal with (especially getting in and out of it), but fullsuits actually are decently comfortable as well. The nice thing with a partial is that you don't have as much heat trapped with you so it's easier to stay in suit for a longer period of time. And thanks! :) I do like the greater range of expression with this suit so far, though looking at a side-by-side comparison with the old mask is kind of funny. The new one is almost twice as wide (though, interestingly, they are the exact same length and nearly the same height)! :P
Oh - that'd be a good picture to post here; a side-by-side. :) The expressiveness is good in your case just because you are such an animated, fun guy, so putting a suit on actually dulls it if the suit can't bring out all that craziness that is your personality, heh. I was thinking the same as well; that for something like dancing, the partial would be easier, cooler and just all-round better for a long duration when doing active events.
Oh wait so it's not just the head? you're making an ENTIRE new fursuit? woah ._.
I think it's the right thing to do though, I was already thinking the contrast of the new head and old body would look wierd (and in fact the new pieces look really cool and fitting). And yeah, accidental or not the tail looks better with the curl~

Yep, it's an entirely new suit! These solid (and more toony) colors don't really match the realistic fur of the first suit, and I *hated* how the first suit fit, so I decided enough was enough and that it was time to make a second suit. This is also practice for eventually making a suit for my DJ alias, Nullstrukt...assuming I can ever settle on a design for him, ha. That will be a challenge, though, as he will be one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:D.....on_grandis.jpg
Heh, yeah, I am really warming up to the curled tail. And it's quite thick, too! It's like my own personal plush wrecking ball. :P
