Kailavmp (DA) wanted to get a random animal so I used wikipedia as the help to find something at least a bit unusual. And I ended up making the Old World Swallowtail - one of the most common butterflies in Great Britain. I have to say - butterflies are hard to make. Exact pattern, exact colors, a few times during the painting process I've discovered that it looks rather like random butterfly from my mind. I used a few new techniques for this one - for example pastel dust applied with brush to smoothen the BG. I also used ballpoint and when I used fixative it made quite interesting blurred areas. I tried to use them as the advantage.
I used green, orange and black ink, yellow and white pastels, white gouache and gel pen, ballpoint, two markers and blue watercolor.
