This is Echo. She is a friend of Jaggyd and Setsuko. Echo is of the Machi peoples. The Machi live in the waters of a handful of worlds (The main School is on Tera), they generally don’t explore or immigrate due to their short lifespans.

The Machi are known for their meticulous nature, which helps them create intricate art, music, and machinery. Their societies are organized in large groups called Schools. These Schools consist of all Machi, in good standing, on a world, these Schools are lead by a relatively autonomous Governess. These Governesses only answer to the Headmistress on Tera. Their government is a beauty based Oligarchy (Bellacracy?), where Governess Candidates pageant for a 3 year term.

The Machi people are divided into two “classes”; Plain Tails, and Fancy Tails. All Plain Tails have the genes to produce a Fancy Tail, Fancy Tails are sterile and unable to reproduce. The Machi society covets Fancy Tailed offspring, as any mated pair that produce a Fancy Tail are treated as if Fancy Tailed themselves (altho, these parents are unable to pageant, as they are not true Fancy Tails.

The Machi are a Matriarchal society as well. Female and male Fancy Tails will use feminine pronouns, even if they are masculine in appearance. Physiologically, there is very little dimorphism between the sexes, with males and females being smaller than the average human at 5’ being their maximum height. Machi have a lifespan of roughly 40 years, they reach adulthood at 10 years old. Physically, an adult Machi has a similar appearance to a pubescent human (roughly 12-15), yet are more delicate in build.
