This piece is the final part of a trilogy in tribute to Mulefoot's creations. The first was 'Beware the Boar', which was about anti-hero Tony Ray McCullogh, the second was about deuteragonist Rita Mae Robinson, and this final piece is about one of the series' tritagonists Samech (Sam) Pallister, all mentioned characters being featured in Mulefoot's online comic SLOP.
Like Tony Ray and Rita, Sam is also very much a study in fascinating contrasts, and where both Tony Ray and Rita are still capable of warmth, Sam has mostly lost that capability. As one reader so cannily put it, Sam is a lot like Anton Chigurh in 'No Country for Old Men', in that he represents entropy as part of what ultimately keeps the system balanced.
In short, Sam has gone beyond good and evil to a place that is in many ways far, far worse.
Also, as Samech is named for the corresponding letter in the Hebrew Alephbeth, which itself was said to represent a bow with drawn string, I have interwoven lines from Psalm 119 (KJV).
For further information and background, I highly recommend that you check out this series.
