Poor Dusk, he may be a lion but I make him into my artistic guinea pig LOL.
I think I'm finally at a design I can stick to though. I ditched the digitigrade legs from the last drawing as they were just too restrictive to his movement, tried a different sort of costume, opting for a short coat and a more modern style over all to the character, but what I'm actually most excited about is that I figured out how to use the facial landmarks as sort of facial hair, sculpted into a stylish beard and mustache without looking tacked on like it does when I see a lot of other people do it. I feel that it adds a level of maturaty to the character, and a new level of style and depth I can add to my characters in general.
All and all, this was fun. There will be possibly two more parts to this sheet. The next will have another pose and some face shots, the last will be an adult ref sheet, but I'm only posting that one if I get feedback on this on and the next one.
What I need to post the adult piece is atleast five good comments. (one worders, sarcasm, complaints, and insults don't count.) Basically, I post to get opinions, and you guys get free art. It saddens me to post a piece and see 20 people fave it and not a single person comment.
So yes, COMMENT and you'll get to see more personal work, don't, and I'm gonna start posting less of that.
Cheers mates, enjoy the piece XD

I can't quite put a finger on it, but Dusk seems to appear, younger, in this iteration than he's seemed previously. Still has that sense of inner confidence, but it's more subtle. He strikes me as the kind of reserved outgoing individual, someone who can walk into a crowd with confidence, but at the same time doesn't really draw attention and keeps to himself politely unless approached. I would have thought he'd favor more traditional weaponry augmented with magic, like in the previous piece Light and Shadow, but that's just me. It does seem like you've steered away some from his appearance reflecting on the past, as this looks straight "modern" (to my understanding of the setting) to me, and I kind of missed those little cues to the past in his apparel, unless I'm missing such elements here. Also strikes me as someone you'd never know was a badass unless you saw him in action, as without the swords, there's really nothing about him that gives a vibe of dangerous, except potentially his quietly confident demeanor.
Thank you XD And actually, you're right on every account, but to me, subtlety makes a better character. A person can have an old soul, but they are going to use and dress with what is available in their age, style themselves somewhat to match, and the like. Looking like a badass is the same as looking like a target. Real badasses look like you and me. Example; Matt Damon is cast in roles like Bourne for the very reason that he looks like the boy next door, but then he's this highly trained, skilled character.
Character writing is really a subtle art I'm learning, because real people are subtle. We downplay what we are good at, and we hide behind society's trappings, our perceptions, or lives, and our minds. The inner self of the character is something we get in glimpses. When I show Dusk in situations, how he handles himself, how he thinks, how he moves, that will make him a badass, and more so because he doesn't like as "In-yo-face-lookit-me-i'm-epic" LOL. He's also more human like this, and that's the juxtaposition, he's a construct being that is so human in his emotions and his inner self that it fools people. It shocks them in the story. It's the vehicle for a social question. The funny trust about being human is, it requires a level of temperance and subtlety in personality. It requires quirks and accessibility in spit of ones best efforts not to be so. It requires a mix of darkness and light to form a complete person.
As for the blades, he is still Very supernaturally inclines, and that will be shown when I finally start presenting his story again, but the supernatural weapons limit me. He has those weapons, only those, those are his magnum opus, like Helsing's pistols. This is cool for some characters, but fir Dusk, he's such a fluid character, I would much rather he has a skillset, then utilizes more resourcefulness with that skillset. He's a katana swordsman. in my j-cyberpunk works, katanas are common and tech weaponry is both projectile, energy, and melee. I can see him grabbing vibroblades in a pinch, and the holo-blades he has? I think he constructed them from scrap. That's so much more interesting to me than having the holy or unholy weapon of awesome, and, it also means, he's not tied to the weapon. He can loose them, break them, get them taken away, and then he has to deal with the situation that is caused by that.
It's taken me yeeeeeeaaaaars of designing to come to this, but believe me, this change is a good thing. Give it time, you'll see more of him, and hopefully you'll agree!
Cheers mate, and thank you for the feedback. It really was awesome to have to think on my answers here and why I was doing certain things. Thank you.

Always nice to see things so thought out.
For the "badassery", you make a very good point. Though I think I may have chosen my words a little off. I think what I was trying to say was more that he doesn't appear the warrior type on first impression, like he has before, but I guess it all comes down the the meaning of appearances still. He looks "normal", as subjective as that term is, and it's who he is on the inside that matters. Externally, a lot of extraordinary people look completely mundane, especially in real life, and I guess it's good to see such representations portrayed in fiction as well, where it's the substance of the character, moreso than their looks, that's iconic.
As for the weapons, it wasn't so much a matter of him wielding magic weapons, but more the ability to "infuse" weapons with magic, though I might be assuming some of Dusk's abilities a tad, I'll admit. In that case, any weapon he picks up could become a potent weapon of both mundane ability and magic potency. However, my vision of such is that such infusion requires to be in a physical object, not energy, so in my view such infusion wouldn't work for such energy weapons; I don't know how you view/handle the interaction between magic/supernatural and technology, as that's a subject of pretty wide views and interpretations. I tend to see things in the light of, the more technological something is, the more opportunities is has to go wrong, and despite how well designed something electronic is, there will always be that vulnerability of fragility with electronics, no matter how well crafted and protected. Then again, blades of steel may be harder to acquire than blades of energy with the resources available, and such blades are likely easier to conceal, for the "blade" is only present when you want it to be. However, as you implied, something happening to them can be a powerful story tool. As for making them, I didn't realize he was so mechanically inclined.
I do agree that skill set is more important than equipment, as I tend to aim my characters towards that as well when I can; mundane training and teaching augmented by something more.

Well thank you! Sorry it took so long to respond. had a lot happen this week and couldn't get to my comments. About his glasses, I love them but I'm on the fence with then as he not has the white markings around his eyes and the glasses seem to make his face too busy at times. That said, they're an accessory I love. So hmmm, what do you think? XD
Don't worry, I understand that comments can take time. Too many things happening in life to constantly be able to reply.
As for the glasses, I think you could make them some kind of 'Tech' glasses.
Maybe something that Hank 'Beast' McCoy was using in the Japanese Anime version of X-Men that I finally caught on the G4 Network.
Or just a good old pair of wire rim reading glasses when he is relaxing.

Thank you! I really appreciate all your insightful feedback! Dusk is a peaceful soul but he has to face challenges that force him into combat. He's highly skilled, but regrets having to use them. He is quite haunted and sad, so I'm glad to see that it comes though in his character XD Thank you again!
