Sketched this just last night and painted it just this morning. God damn it, I have a laziness problem. It's amazing what you can do in just one day!
Planet name: Iseult
Namesake: Character from Arthurian legend.
Homestar: Bolero (Red Dwarf; Class L+10)
Atmosphere: 60% oxygen, 38% carbon, 2% Other gasses.
Gravity: 1.2
Mass: 72 Teratons
Average temperature: 78F
Satellites: 1 (Tristan)
Native Life: Minimal; planet is very early in biological development.
Affiliation: Kemono Union
Population: 15,000,000
Dominant race: Kemono
Dominant religion: Golism
Dominant industry: Mining, terraforming, manufacturing, farming.
History: Colonized by Kemono Union settlers in 80 BU (Before Unification; 5312 AD), Iseult is a volcanically and seismically-active planet rich in minerals and is second only to Iron Island in industrial output. The planet's black plant-life and dim, red sunlight gives it a grim appearance, further exacerbated by the city-sized industrial zones that continuously spew smoke and steam from their mile-high chimneys. The planet is far from a mechanical wasteland of any sort. In fact, many of its regions are very lush - overgrown, even - with vast farms, thick gnarled jungles and shady beaches around what little water it has, providing both food and a defense against the massive carbon levels in the planet's atmosphere.
The volcanic activity of Iseult provides the planets with a steady stream of geothermal energy, fertile soil and abundant hot springs, compensating for the fact that citizens have to wear gas-masks in case the atmosphere becomes too toxic to breathe. But even that has its upsides, as Iseult's violent crust makes a magnificent training ground for its famed Iseultan Guard: soldiers of the KUAF specially trained for fighting in hostile environments.
After the tragic Battle of Almaty and the ensuing economic and infrastructural recession, many of Iseult's factories had to close down due to lack of travel and demand, with many industrial parks collapsing from neglect, ghettofication and lack of maintenance from the world's frequent earthquakes.
Seen here is the planetary palace of Iseult, monitored by thousands of sentry drones and surrounded by hidden anti-aircraft batteries.
The picture itself was inspired by Emperor Shaddam IV's palace on Kaitain from David Lynch's Dune.

I think what strikes me is the stark difference between the palace and everything surrounding it.
The palace looks pure compared to the bleak citscape, and the color choice is very well done to exemplify the ashy look to it.
The accompanying text is neat, but one contradiction that bothered me says that the "planet is very early in biological development," yet "many of its regions are very lush - overgrown, even - with vast farms, thick gnarled jungles and shady beaches around what little water it has, providing both food and a defense against the massive carbon levels in the planet's atmosphere."

When I enlarged this piece and observed it and all its details, there was this one thought in my head that popped out: "This is amazing. Why aren't you as good as this?"
Although I did made this one piece with ink and colored pencils of one of the Koch brothers laughing maniacally. Only problem with it is that it's titled (but I can fix that with Pixlr).
But yeah, it would be interesting to see you tackle a meadow or valley.
I'm sorry that my brain doesn't feel like analyzing at the moment. I just woke up an hour ago coughing and stuff. :B
