So this is what I actually do; SCIENCE!!!!!!
For my first year university project I built a laser and used it in a trip wire set up (display picture here). This pose was a very common occurrence when trying to line up the laser with the detector.
I also recently created some computer code for lasers/ light bundles through lenses (a nice 3D virtual representation can be seen here) so got to play about with lasers a bit more.

Thanks very much! And as you can see from my display picture we actually made a red (semiconductor) laser, which we did fry about 3 with faulty driver circuits. We did try to get our demonstrator to allow a blue one, or a more powerful infrared for heating but he resisted.
