If I knew what I meant, I'd be working on them instead of putting them off until I get most of the pips done! I keep feeling like there's something missing in how I'm approaching them; I probably just need to sit down with my various references and distill some frameworks out for me to work from, and get them all distinct in my mind.
I think a deck is definitely happening one way or another, whether it be a very limited handmade edition, a run done with a printer somewhere, or going with a publisher who has tentacles of distribution.

Hmmmm. That's a toughie, then. ;3
I'm sure you must have looked at other decks. My personal favorite is still the Thoth deck. Each card is so packed-to-the-gills with rich symbolism I've never had any trouble interpreting a reading from them. Maybe you should try a less direct approach? Then again Frieda Harris made this deck veritably a life's effort, often meditating on each card as it coincided with events in her life, so it's also about process.

I'm particularly fond of how she interpreted the Aeon (it ofen reminds me of a uterus), the Moon (the howling dog on the Ryder deck replaced by Anubi... genius) the Devil (testicles), the Hanged Man, Lust (clitoris), and all three Magicians (only two of them are shown on this site).

I have actually been trying to avoid looking at other interpretations beyond occasional glimpses, especially the Harris/Crowley deck! Crowley's book has ended up being one of my primary references, and I do not want to find myself unconsciously using the same metaphors Harris did.
(admittedly most of her figurative work was in the Majors, and I have not gone with Thothean majors - but I still feel that a purity of approach is essential.)
I'm starting to get some ideas for how to approach the Courts; I've got some court-specific reference on its way. I'd probably be doing a lot more serious pondering of them right now if not for having spent this week down in New Orleans to see my grandmother one last time, and then to attend her funeral.
