If you try to alter a gyroscope's axis of rotation, it replies with another force of its own. It tends to mantain stable the axis. That's why you don't have to keep balance with your body when riding a bike: the wheels do it for you. It's also the reason why spinning bullets have more precision, or why torpedoes are sometimes ewuipped with an internal gyroscope as well.
So if you link yourself to a gyroscope, your movements would be obstacled.
Also, a gyroscope doesn't have any influence on traslational motion of the system, so I don't see how can it add kinetic energy as well.
That said, I prefer to leave details to the real world and enjoy the cool picture!
