While waiting for the bus I realized that many of the old picturesque buildings I remember as a child are gone. The parking lot beside me used to be an old bank and I remember that everything inside was in marble and that the ceiling seemed to be over a hundred feet high. When they finally tore it down, the old massive vault was the last thing they got ride of.
I miss those old buildings as the ones now have no spark to them.
This is the old Landed Banking & Loan building, built in 1908. Thankfully the renovated and saved it.

As someone who has had to do wiring work in some of those old buildings I now realize all too well why they are torn down. They look good on the outside, but on the inside, behind the walls, they are a complete mess, electrical, plumbing, communications, HVAC, everything.
I agree it's sad, but unfortunately you'd have to tear the building half apart in order to redo what needs to be done and it's just cheaper to "burn it down and start over"..

While I understand what the above fellow is saying, I still like the old buildings. If they are going to tear down and start over, the least they could do is maintain the feel of antiquity! Too many of the new places feel so devoid of life, sterile as if they were an operating room.
