This is a story I wrote a long while ago and I am now going through it and editing as I go :3 Here's the first chapter (it's rather short) let me know what you think :3
"Dude!" shouted one of my brothers, "big meeting tonight, don't miss it again or the Big D'll have your head!"
"In your dreams, Diffie!" I shouted back, walking backwards to keep him in my sights.
He laughed shaking his head, we both knew I was unlikely to get there on time. My tardiness had earned me many a biting.
Diffie jogged off, his lean, dark skinned body getting him a few appreciative looks as his muscles pumped beneath his skin.
I wandered through the high street, amongst the humans, smelling all the summer smells. It was so beautiful, the smell of the sun on the pavements, the scent of dry earth and dust- it was the true summer smell. The sun beat down on my back and a trickle of sweat dribbled down between my shoulder blades. Overall it was a really good day to be out. I felt relaxed, content with everything enough to just wander along mindlessly.
My ancient phone buzzed in my pocket, drawing a sigh from me as I knew who it'd be.
"Hi mum,” I said quietly so that the wonderfully tango’d girls nearby wouldn’t hear me.
"Sweetie, something is wrong,” my mum said urgently.
"Did the Great Wolf Spirit show you something?" I asked worriedly.
"Yes. You know that it means this is true. He told me 'Tonight you will see the future. Be warned of the dangers,' then there you were, in Wolf form. You went to cross the road and then- then a lorry came from no-where! They hit you and you went flying and then I woke up!"
"Mum," I said, "what he showed you is probably in the very far future."
"No! Listen to me, Tristan! I can feel it in the air! Please, Tristan, don’t go to the meeting tonight!"
“I have to; if I don’t go then you know they’ll beat me in again.”
I quickly hung up before she could protest further, switching off my phone to stop her from calling again. I knew she could easily come and find me if she wanted to, but I doubted she would.
I went to the park, looking around furtively before darting into a small clump of trees, trying not to tread on the empty cans and dog-ends that littered the ground. I stripped down to my boxers and put my clothes into a sports bag that I often carried about with me for just this occasion. Quickly I changed my form, pushing my Wolf self forwards.
As you may have already guessed we are different to humans. We are more than mankind. We are Wolf Spirits. We are not like the Werewolves from old fairy tales, but more intelligent, kinder, faster and on occasion, more vicious. Our lives are governed by our Deity’s, the Great Wolf mother and the Great Wolf. There are others, too, but they will no doubt introduce themselves. Our Deity’s visit us in our sleep; whisper advise and the future, the past and sometimes the present. There is no doubt in us that they are alive.
I wriggled out of my boxers, stuffing them into the bag with my jaws, wishing I could have done it before I had changed, but I was always worried someone would spot my naked ass and have a go at me.
I trotted off, the bag held in my jaws and found myself a patch of sunlight to bask in and before I knew it I was out.
I dreamt of a girl. She had long blondy-brown hair and a nice smile. She ran through a field ahead of me, laughing, teasing me as I chased her. I was in my Wolf form, but she was in Human form. I leapt and we both tumbled to the ground, laughing. Then the Great Wolf Spirit came to me.
"This is your future," he whispered to me, "You're journey starts today, you cannot go forwards without her.”
There was a pause and then-
“You are late. Your brothers are waiting."
I awoke with a start to find that there were streaks of pink in the sky. Crap! I’d have to move fast if I want to get there at all, so I grabbed my bag in my mouth and began to move with Spirit speed, faster than any land or sea or air creature. I needed to be quick so as not to let the Alpha down. He'll bite my muzzle if I'm late! And he's going to bite my stomach for not turning up last week as it is! I ran towards Thetford forest, but before I could completely get out of the town limits I came to the road. My paw pads had barely made contact with the tarmac when a lorry came speeding around the bend. I knew, in that miniscule second, that my mother had been right. It plowed into me and I went flying like a rag doll tossed from a grumpy toddler’s pram, skidding across the road before I came to a stop. My vision blurred and darkened until I was rendered senseless.
The Great Wolf Spirit whispered to me, "Your destiny approaches."
My eyes flickered as a pounding noise filled my ears. Was it my heart beat? No, my addled brain realized, it was hurried footsteps. A girl was running towards me, stopping short and kneeling by my side. It was her! The girl the Great Wolf Spirit showed me! I tried to do something, anything, to show her I knew.
"Oh shit,” she whispered, "you poor thing," she said, reaching out a shaking hand to touch my head.
I tried to say something, but I couldn't. I was still a Wolf, my throat and voice box not able to cope with human words. How could this happen? Usually when we fall asleep in this form we wake up in our human one!
Don’t worry, I said to myself, she is the special girl, she’ll understand. She’ll know.
A man stood behind her and looked down at me with pity in his eyes.
"Poor thing," he whispered, "it's been hit, so there's little we can do."
"Wait, dad," she said, "it's still breathing. Can we at least stay until it goes? I can't bear to let it die on its own."
Die?! What were they on about? I was fine!
To prove it, I painfully pulled myself to my torn paws. It was the only way to assess damage, I convinced myself. God it hurt. A couple of ribs were busted and my hind right leg was out of joint and broken entirely. The worst stuff, like internal bleeding had already stopped. Oh the wonders of the life of a Wolf. I tried to look pathetic and lost, which wasn’t hard to do, considering that it was exactly how I felt.
"Dad, look at him! He's gotten up, so he'll be fine, right?" she said hopefully.
"Yeah," he said gently, but I knew he didn't mean it.
I looked at the girls brilliantly deep blue eyes and thought at her as hard as I could, Projecting my thoughts.
Please, please, don't leave me here, I need you. Help me, take me home!
She looked startled for a moment then said "I think we should take him home with us."
"Dude!" shouted one of my brothers, "big meeting tonight, don't miss it again or the Big D'll have your head!"
"In your dreams, Diffie!" I shouted back, walking backwards to keep him in my sights.
