I did this painting for my Landscape painting class. The assignment was to take photos and do studies of animals at the zoo and their faux habitats, then to create a painting of our own composition based off those photos and studies. I based this painting off of what I learned from my photos and studies, but not really any particular one of them.
The arctic foxes at the Denver Zoo had their winter coats still, and were really active that day. There are a few cool looking twisted wood pieces and logs in there that I liked too.
I named the painting Ciro because he's supposed to be one of my characters; a world travelling arctic fox with brilliant sun coloured eyes (thus his name Ciro, which means 'sun' in Italian).
Original is acrylic paints on 15" X 20" illustration board

Sorry, can't think of as much as I normally can, but I must say this: FLOOFY~ :3 Arctic foxes are pretty cool. I'm really jealous your zoo has foxes, though. I'd love to have a local zoo to just go out to and watch the foxes, or one with wolves or something. We don't have any canids at the ones nearby, and wolves only in Houston. It's a nice piece of wood there, too.
Wow! Gorgeous! =D
Somehow, it seems a bit different that your usual works; but not in a bad way! I like it a lot!
The paints are so smooth and soft looking! I love how bright and vivid the colors are too!
You did such a wonderful job, Katie! Amazing details! Especially with the fur!!! And the eyes! Homgah! <333

Have you ever been to the Butterfly Pavillion? It's way awesome, it's the bug version of the zoo! They have tons of cool spider specimins, including a giant bird eating spider, and there's a turnatual named Rosie you can hold, and a room full of butterlfies that's a lot like the bird exhibits at the zoo, with butterflies everywhere! I went recently, it was very cool. =3
Whoa! You sure are good with the acrylics. This is drop-dead gorgeous. And it sure makes me nostalgic for my university days when I used to used illustration board. I can just feel the gentle texture in my mind. Good lord, this must have taken forever to finish - that's an awful lot of blending. You must go through a lot of brushes?
